Sample poem

Fossil Fuels

Gasoline is

fresh cut grass and the

growl of the mower in summer.

Kerosene is

damp tent canvas

and crickets singing.

Motor oil is

sacks of feed, bins of seed and

revving engines at the farm supply store.

Coal tar creosote is

heat rising from the pilings of the dock,

the slap of water, the zing of the fishing line.

Where will memories come from

when fossil fuels are gone from Earth?
